At recent Global Solidarity Committee meeting we heard from Monina Wong of the ITUC about recent events regarding Myanmar and have since written to Minister for Foreign Affairs, Helen McEntee T.D. urging rejection of the military junta’s plans for a December 28th election and to urge a strong implementation of the 2025 ILO’s article 33 sanction against the regime.

Other items discussed included the 28th November day of workplace action in solidarity with the people of Palestine and concern about the ongoing delays in passing the occupied territories bill and including services.
There was also concern regarding the lawlessness of the USA in the Caribbean unlawfully seizing an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela and sinking boats allegedly carrying drugs with no evidence provided.
The Committee noted the recent climate march in Dublin and the outcome of the COP 30 negotiations, including the very welcome Belem action mechanism on Just Transition..
